Acceptance test results
15. January 2021
After completion of the acceptance test in Switzerland, WU Vienna, CARU AG and bonacasa AG were able to present the analyses and evaluations. The smooth process was emphasized as well as the good cooperation within the consortium. Thus, all devices could be installed in 22 assisted living units of bonacasa AG according to plan.
The original CARU emergency call function was tested. The simple operation of being able to send an emergency call via voice command (“Hilfe”) was perceived by the test persons with great interest throughout. In the rehearsed emergency case during the test run, almost all participants were able to remember how to operate CARU. The actual activation of the function, however, was perceived as more difficult, as it required several attempts in some cases. CARU did not respond reproducibly to the participants’ voice commands in the test scenarios – especially when they tried to activate it from further away or from adjacent rooms.
Bottom line: In one case, CARU was able to help in a serious emergency during the test phase. This highlighted the high added value of a voice-based solution in the operational environment with elderly people.
The test results showed two things:
1. testing an emergency situation authentically is almost impossible.
2. voice recognition needs further improvement from a technical point of view, respectively the operation via voice command usually only works reliably in the same room.
Clear communication and education in advance are of very high importance in the target group 75+. For the upcoming field test, Schneeweis Wittmann will work intensively on an information package so that the participants can be familiarized as well as possible with the product and its functions.
